Do you ever feel like giving up? Throwing in the towel? We all do at some point, don’t we?
It’s perfectly normal to feel this way the question is, what are you going to do about it? How you handle these feelings will make the difference between success and failure. I had an excellent mentor many years ago named Michael Latas, and whenever I would lose my focus and start burning myself out, he used say to me “Mike, sometimes the spirit doesn’t move us, so you have to move the spirit” Great point, isn’t it?
You have to push through your feelings of quitting. It will pass if you just start moving. In other words, do not tread water! You cannot tread water forever you will need to start moving in some direction. Moving will be the only thing that will keep you from drowning. Moving forward and pushing through will also help you with these feelings you are having about quitting. The cure is to do something. Anything! In other words, you have to move your spirit! Take control!
If you are having these feelings towards your job search it’s important to keep pushing forward. Keep it up! Keep pushing! Don’t give up! We need you! The same goes for your current career. If you are currently working you have to push through these feelings. If you do, these feelings will start to pass. You will soon get your momentum back.
Now, if you are burning yourself out maybe you should take a break. Go to the park. Take some time off and do absolutely nothing for a couple of hours. Maybe it’s time for a vacation? When you burn yourself out you can also have the feelings of just quitting, throwing in the towel. So, you might need a break from it all.
If you are burning yourself out in your job search, or your career, you should take a break for a while and recharge your batteries. Take a step back for a while and come back to it when you are fresh. I am not talking about weeks, or months, just a few days or even a couple of hours.
Now, with your job search you have no choice but to come back and keep pushing forward and doing what you have to do for employment, right? But what if you took a break from a career because you were getting bored, burned out, and just sick of what you were doing, and when you returned from your little hiatus, you still cannot shake off those feelings? If pushing through, or taking a break for a while doesn’t cure these feelings, then you might have to seriously consider a career change. Remember the spirit doesn’t always move you sometimes you have to move the spirit! I hope this helps.
Good luck to you!
