Do you want to get the job? Then act normal – be yourself – don’t lose your personality and become a robot when you’re interviewing.
If you’re trying to be something you’re not in an interview it will come through loud and clear. It will seem phony or “not right” to the interviewer. Just be you.
When you act normal when you’re interviewing it will calm your nerves.
Just be you when you’re interviewing. You won’t be able to fake it or pretend to be someone you’re not for vary long anyway, so make sure the company likes you for who you are. I love when a candidate is candid and honest in interviews with me – it’s refreshing.
Now before you go to your next interview wearing jeans with holes in the knees, and cigarettes rolled up your sleeve, that isn’t what I mean when I say, “Just be you” what I mean is be yourself and show your own personality. Don’t be robotic.
You will be more relaxed interviewing when you act normal.
Yes, the interview is important and you should have butterflies in your stomach, but the butterflies will be ten times worse if you’re not being yourself. How you act and what you say in the interview won’t be believable to the interviewer. Something to the interviewer, “won’t seem right” about you and it won’t be that you’re nervous, it will be that you’re trying to be someone you’re not. Don’t do this. Just be YOU.
One of the things I always tell candidates, before they interview with one of my clients is, “Be yourself” and “Have fun” and evaluate the company and their opportunity and see if YOU want to go to work for them. Take control!
The bottom line is, if you don’t fit in to their company being yourself maybe you shouldn’t work for that company anyway. Again, act normal when you’re interviewing – you will be glad you did! I hope this helps.
Good luck to you!

Hi Dumont,
Thanks for the kind words. I just wished more candidates realized this. When we (In the business) interview a lot, it’s nice to interview someone that is candid, genuine, and themselves. It helps us make better decisions.
Good luck to you!
Mike
