How to Start Your Own Business

The best way to start your own business is to find something you’re interested in and work there first! This is key, you must work there first to find out if you like the business and would even want to own a business in that particular industry. I have seen people start a restaurant or bar and never worked in one. Is that smart? Why do something like that? The best way, if you want to start a business on a shoestring budget, like I did, is to find something service related that you won’t need a lot of investment or overhead to get started. Make sense? So, fist you must find that type of industry and then go and work there, and then branch out on your own. You will save yourself a ton of aggravation and money, working in the industry first. I hope this helps. Good luck to you! Mike Palumbo

Best Interview Answers

When you’re interviewing with a company the best interview answers you can give to ANY question, is to make sure you answer any question as to “what it means to the company” and I don’t care what the question is… See, companies don’t really care about your personal issues or what you have been up to when they ask you opening questions. The only thing a company wants to know from you is, “What can you do for us?” or “What does that mean to our company” – that’s it! If they ask you about your time in the military, they want to know what your experience in the military means to their firm. If they ask you about your education and degree, they want to know what that education or degree means to their company. Get it! I really don’t care what the question is they are asking you, they only want to know, “What does that mean to us?” or “What can you do for us?” Period! If you want to have the best interview answers and “Ace” every interview try this technique, it works every time it’s tried! I hope this helps. Good luck to you! Mike Palumbo

When Interviewing Be Enthusiastic!

I hear stories all the time about companies looking for “fresh blood” and a new way of thinking. All companies get stale or stagnant after a while. It happens to the best companies in the world. No company is immune to it. You have to be aware of this when you’re interviewing. Be energetic and enthusiastic when you’re interviewing. It matters. Even if you think the company isn’t going through this stale and stagnant period right now, they will still be looking for spark plugs, believe me. If you’re not the upbeat or energetic type, that’s fine but you need to be enthusiastic about your profession. You have to convey that you have new ideas and potentially new ways of doing things better and more productively. Not just a person that goes through the motions. Remember, they already have those on staff. As a professional recruiter I sit through meeting after meeting with clients and believe me they all want the same thing. I sit there and pretend to be interested, but they all say the same thing. They say, “We want some fresh blood and someone with new ideas” or some variation of that theme. Think about it? If you owned a company isn’t that what you would want? Absolutely! So the next time you’re interviewing keep in mind that companies have plenty of dead batteries throughout their company so what they really need are spark plugs! They will be looking at you to light it up! Be alive. Be enthusiastic about your profession. Be that fresh blood they’re looking for and need. If you seem like all of the other dead batteries throughout their company you won’t get the job! I hope this helps! Good luck to you! Mike Palumbo Creative Recruitment Strategies

Do YOU Want To WIN Every Interview?

It’s true that every company is different in the way they do things, but there is one thing they all have in common and that is the need for talent. Top talent. People problems are their biggest problems. What can YOU do for the company? Can you solve the company’s people problems? Are you top talent? Are you a top performing employee or a high maintenance employee? If you can solve the company’s problem then you must make that point clear in the interview and stress what YOU can do for the company, early and often.

Are You Looking To Make A Career Change?

Does the grass look greener over at this new company? Maybe it is! Do you think it will be better? Is it right for you? Will this new company and position take your career in the direction you want? Then do it! Sometimes the grass is greener! In some cases it is absolutely better for you to change jobs and move on. Maybe you’re not growing where you are? Maybe you’re not challenged anymore? Do these things happen? Yes! There are times in your career where you have to change jobs, either you want to do something else because you’re getting bored or the only way you can advance any higher in your career is to change to another company. If these are your reasons for changing jobs this doesn’t make you a bad person, quite the contrary, it makes you smart. You’re thinking about your future! There are right reasons and wrong reasons for changing jobs. Being bored, unhappy, or unable to advance in your career are excellent reasons. Those are the right reasons to change. Just wanting more money is the wrong reasons to change. Don’t get me wrong, money will be a factor when you’re changing jobs but it shouldn’t be the only factor when considering a change. Throughout my career I have witnessed companies “buying” people to come to work for them, which means, paying them way above the market price for their years of experience. Be very cautious if you’re faced with this situation. If it sounds to go to be true, it most likely is, so do your research before change. There are a lot of issues to consider when you’re thinking of making a career change. Don’t rush into it. On any opportunity, make sure you do your research on the company, position, location, potential and everything that’s important to you and your family, before you make the change. The grass may look a lot greener over at that other company, and guess what? It could be! Do your research! I hope this helps. Good luck to you! Mike Palumbo

Annoying Interview Questions!

Some interviewers can be very tricky and, quite frankly, very annoying with their interview questions. What’s the point? Just when I think I’ve heard and seen everything when it comes to interviewers and their crazy tactics, I’ll hear about something else that will drive me crazy. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the purpose of an interview is to find out if someone is qualified for the position. Nope.

You Don’t Deserve Anything – You Have To Earn It!

Unless you’re lucky enough to be born into a family business or inherit a bunch of money you will have to earn everything in your life and career. In business, companies don’t win big contracts because they deserve it they win them because they earned it. People don’t get promoted or win that big sales contract because they deserve it they win them because they earned it. If you take the attitude that nobody is going to give you anything you will be better served throughout your life and career. Why? Because it’s true, that’s why. Don’t get me wrong throughout your career you will have people as mentors or advisors that can help you, that’s not what I am talking about. What I mean is thinking you deserve something, because you don’t. You will still have to earn it. In my business I am always working toward earning new business. Companies won’t use my firm because they like us or think we deserve their business. We have to earn their business. And it’s an ongoing process because I have competition that is also trying to earn their business. Is anyone going to give us anything? No, we will have to earn it. Professional athletes understand the fact that they have to earn it. No one is going to give them anything. Their competition isn’t going to give them the title or the Gold Medal because they deserve it, they have to go out and earn it. And it’s the same thing with your life and career. I want you to have the same attitude as a professional athlete. Go out and earn it! Stop thinking you’re entitled or you deserve something, because you don’t. When you earn what you want through hard work and persistence you will feel better about yourself. You won! Your hard work paid off! There is truly no better feeling. Remember, you don’t deserve anything in life – you have to earn it! The quicker you start realizing this the more successful you will become. Don’t wait around and pout because you feel you’re not getting what you deserve. Go get it! Work hard and earn it! I hope this helps. Good luck to you! Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

Should you stay with your present employer or go? Are you currently faced with a new opportunity, maybe even an offer of employment, and you’re torn about what to do? When you’re faced with the decision about leaving a company it is always hard to do, especially if you’ve been working there a long time. Maybe you have a lot of good friends there and it’s really comfortable and familiar, right? So now what? You have to leave all of this and go to the unknown? Yikes! If you’re going through this right now what you’re feeling is fear of change. This is perfectly normal for you to have these feelings. When we leave the familiar and go to the unfamiliar it can cause uneasiness in all of us. But what’s the alternative? If you are stagnating in your career right now, is that what you want? There isn’t anything wrong with staying with the familiar, but there is something wrong if it hurts your career. Don’t make this mistake. What you’re feeling is the same feelings you might have had going from high school to college, or college to your first job, right? Didn’t you have a little feeling of uneasiness? Maybe even a little fear of change? What happened to your friends? Your good friends are still with you, right? And the same thing will happen this time. You didn’t lose your good friends before and you won’t lose them this time. When you’re learning new things and meeting new people, you’re growing. How exciting! Obviously there is something missing or lacking with your present employer, otherwise you wouldn’t be exploring new opportunities, right? If you have done your research on this new opportunity and you feel it’s the right company, position, location, potential and compensations for you – GO! It might turn out to be the best thing you ever did! Have fun! I hope this helps. Good luck to you!
