Is Your Attitude Positive or Negative?

Interview tips

Positive Attitude = Positive Interview

Negative Attitude = Negative Interview

Attitude is everything! We have all heard that at some point in our lives, haven’t we? Do you know why people say this? Because it’s true!

In almost twenty-years of recruiting I have learned a lot of things about companies and candidates, but through all of the technology changes, downsizing, take overs, wars, and economic down turns, one thing never changed. People.

Do companies hire people? No, people hire people! And people hire people they like! That is what hasn’t changed through the years. Yes, the Internet has taken a lot of the human touch out of applying for positions, but eventually you will have to meet with someone within the company. That’s where your attitude will win the interview or kill it!

Your positive attitude will equal a positive interview and your negative attitude will bring forth a negative interview. Positive = Job offer. Negative = no job offer. There could be exceptions to this, but I haven’t seen it. People are naturally attracted to positive people. Negative people? Not so much.

When you’re around positive people how do you feel? When you’re around negative people how do you feel? Attitude is everything, isn’t it?

I have seen good qualified candidates in my career get passed over for positions because of their negative attitudes. And, guess what? Some of these candidates don’t even know they are being negative. It can be in the way they answer questions, their body language, or just their overall demeanor.

I have also seen less qualified candidates in my career get hired because of their positive attitudes. I am not telling you to be phony, but I am telling you that your attitude matters. If you’re having a bad day, cancel your interview. This is too important.

When you’re interviewing, guard yourself about sounding and being negative about everything. Stay positive! Remember, a positive attitude = a positive interview. What does that mean? A job offer! I hope this helps.

Good luck to you!
