Are companies saying you’re overqualified?
When a company says, “You’re overqualified for the position” typically that means – You Make Too Much Money! Overqualified is code word for you’re over the salary range for the position.
Now, something to think about is it’s for THAT position within THAT company, right? That doesn’t mean you are overqualified for another company in another market.
Most companies in a given market are pretty close when it comes to salaries. I have conducted many salary survey’s and researched salaries in markets, and for the most part, companies are pretty close to each other.
So, you’re either applying to positions where you are overqualified or you are over the salary in the market where you are presently living. What’s the answer? Change markets or be very flexible on your salary requirements.
Good luck to you!
