Don’t drift through life and your career without any type of game plan whatsoever. Are you doing this? Without a game plan how can you get that dream career you have always wanted? Can you hit a target if you don’t know where it is? No!
All sports teams have to put together game plans and strategies to win games. It doesn’t just happen, there has to be some type of road map to victory or there won’t be a victory. The team with the best game plan and, most importantly, executes that game plan will win. If they have a good game plan but they don’t put it to use, what good is it?
A lot of you are drifting without any plan whatsoever for your career, and some of you have plans but you aren’t putting them to use. Why? If you have a plan for your career but you’re not putting it to use you’re just as bad as the person without a plan. You have to have a plan. A target. A road map to victory or you won’t be successful. Get a plan together for your career and execute it!
When you put your plan together you must be very specific. Saying, “I want to live in Denver, Colorado” isn’t a plan or specific enough. I want you to be very specific. It should be, “I will be an HR Manager with ABC Company in Denver, Colorado by April 2013 or sooner” and you can get even more specific with the exact location within Denver, Colorado or even the exact company.
So, your specific plan should be, “I will be an HR Manager with Dish Network in Denver, Colorado and I will live in the Washington Park area in an old renovated house next to the lake.” And you can get even more specific. When your plan is specific you will have your road map to victory. You will have your game plan and target to hit for success. You will start to visualize yourself living in Colorado.
Without a game plan for your career you won’t win! You have to have a plan and, more importantly, execute your plan. Be specific. Set your sights on your target. Soon you will start to visualize your plan and the goals for your career. It will dominate your thoughts. You will start moving in the direction of your goals and your plan. And when you do all of this, you will win! I hope this helps.
Good luck to you!
